Many occult ideas depend on a leap of faith or an assumption. But some are straight-up wrong no matter what you practice. Like this: "With so much madness in the world today, we have to believe in magic."
Magic is not equal to madness nor is it the antidote for madness. The person who said this is a beginner, still under the spell of reductive materialism and trying to break free. Too much Harry Potter (magic is a shiny distraction from my muggle life). Too much using spirituality as a narcotic (an escape from the "real" world): "The world is crazy—so I'm going to wear this weird hat and chant until I feel slightly better for a bit. Then I can Netflix and chill in peace."
This is a developmental (initiatory) phase usually encountered in the neophyte grades of magical orders or in the first apprenticeship year of some covens. People who don't grow out of it tend to leave the order or coven in search of the next new thing because it's more about being a tourist than someone who wants self-mastery.
